Internationally acclaimed and award winning entertainer extraordinaire, Mikelangelo steps up to the plate and interprets a series of iconic songs from Cave, Waits and Cohen that helped to shape his musical and lyrical vision as a young lad. Each of these songs he has happily fallen asleep listening to over the years, thus they have worked their strange magic on his dreams and become pivotal influences on his singing and his songwriting.
The album was recorded live in Melbourne on Thursday 28 February 2013 at the bohemian enclave Some Velvet Morning. Performed live and solo in front of a packed audience in the tiny venue, Mikelangelo played two sets completely unamplified, recorded and mixed by Some Velvet Morning co-owner and Wagons guitarist John Guscott.
The ten songs recorded are drawn from three albums that Mikelangelo coveted in his youth, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds ‘Your Funeral, My Trial’. Tom Waits’ ‘Franks Wild Years’ and Leonard Cohen’s ‘Songs Of Love and Hate’.
