Edward Deer’s dark, melodic and highly personal sound suggests a range of reference points, from classic acoustic folk to pop, rock, Americana and electronic music. His musical approach has received comparisons to the likes of Elliott Smith, Sufjan Stevens, Simon & Garfunkel, Jose Gonzalez and Kings of Convenience.
Quickly garnering a strong live reputation for his unique, loop-based performances, Deer was selected by Rob Hirst (Midnight Oil) for Vivid’s 10×10 initiative as one of his 10 favourite up-and-coming creative Sydneysiders.
About Monsters is his first album – performed, recorded and mixed almost entirely by Deer. It features his idiosyncratic versions of Miike Snow’s ‘Animal’ and Tom Waits’ ‘Clap Hands’, as well as 11 eclectic originals, including the acclaimed first single ‘Washed Ashore’ (as showcased locally and internationally on several influential blogs, including ‘Whothehell.net’).
